Patterns in Nature

The hard-edge painting method used in the Patterns in Nature series allows me to clearly articulate complex naturally occurring patterns. It requires a tremendous amount of planning, organization, and controlled execution. The forms that inspire me are biomorphic and non-Euclidean in shape. I have a continuing interest in fractals. Fractals can be split into parts that are considered a reduced copy of the whole. Having this knowledge gives me the freedom to magnify or condense an object from its actual size. Also, through measured studies, observing fractals has proven to reduce physiological stress. I consider the emotional and psychological responses we have to color when preparing my palette. My color choices, as a result, are arbitrary to what is seen in actual life. My intention is to present these organic forms and patterns as an offering of positive stimulus in a culture that is rife with provocation.
